We will use sound to add a layer of depth and creativity to our game. Sounds will cue when they player accomplishes a goal, or conversely does not achieve a goal. A voice-over may possibly provide instructions as well. Overall, the sound will add a richness to the game and eliminate any dull, empty space.

1.) Can your game be both a Civics and Stem game?

1.) A game in which the player has to use technology to make his/her way to a voting booth.
2.) A game in which the player uses computers to track inflation rates and find a solution to eliminate them.
3.) A game in which the player keeps track of the rise and fall of costs in a supermarket/store.
4.) A game in which the player uses technology to spread political campaign messages.
5.) A game in which the player must use various technological devices to convince people to register to vote.

Blog Assignment for 12-2-10
All things considered, after roughly four months of taking this class, I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed it. While it is certainly not an easy class, and is in fact quite challenging, I still find great joy in it and even find myself having fun most of the time. Working in Flash, obviously, has been the highlight of this class. Again, while it has been challenging at times, the reward of seeing a working animation or a well-drawn scene has always been fulfilling; it's been well worth the challenge, and I'm eagerly anticipating what I'll learn throughout the rest of the course.

A Research Link
As there were no sufficient links on any of my peers' blogs, I found my own research link. This link will take you to a website that describes the components of an iPad. Since our game primarily revolves around an iPad, this will prove to be an invaluable source for our research in the future.

Blog Assignment for 11-12-10
How are you using visual storytelling through your sequence of scenes to help players learn about your topic?
We will be tracking the quest of our character, Oscar, as he attempts to recover the dismantled components of the iPad. As the player recovers each component, we will use visuals to explain more about how the components work and why they do what they do, and so on and so forth.
What are examples of games you played in the Playing to Learn topic that use storytelling to teach a concept well?
"What Would You Do?" was a good game in that respect, in that it chronicled the story and narrative of your choices, and it used that narrative to teach you about the consequences of making certain choices.
How have other narrative games influenced your game?
If a game tells a good story, it is captivating, much like a good movie, or a good novel. It will hold the attention of the player and keep them involved. That being said, narrative games have influenced me to want to tell a good story with my game; I don't want it to just be fun and educational, I want it to tell a good story.

Blog Assignment for 11-5-10
Why would you use folders to organize your scenes?
It helps keep separate layers organized and makes it much easier to edit and change individual objects and layers if necessary.
What function do keyframes have?
They are used as points to insert scenes, objects, etc. The spaces in-between these keyframes can be used to insert things like motion tweens, too.

Blog Assignment for 10-29-10
Over the course of the development of our game topic, I've learned that technology is a very broad and wide subject. Whereas in the past, my view of technology was very narrow, I now realize that technology does not only encompass electronic devices, but it encompasses everything that aids us in our day to day routines. Microwaves, weather radars, even spoons are all forms of technology that we as a society would probably all be lost without.
I came to this realization after I had contemplated and turned over multiple game ideas in my head. I had no idea what to choose from out of the broad range of technology that I had been considering. It was quite a revelation, to think that technology consisted of so much.
The single most helpful resource in this process was my teacher, Mrs. Chenoweth. She gave our team a few great ideas to run with, and her knowledge of all things technological was all together stunning and impressive - and being a teacher, her advice was reliable and trustworthy.

Team JFH
From left to right: Josiah (Page Designer), Shane (Animations), and Brent (Power Point).
- What is your role in the team?
My job is to manage and update the team wiki page. I upload all of our files, edit all of our text, and keep the page looking neat and spiffy.
- Why are you good at this job?
- What is the hardest part about working in teams?
If we're not all on the same page, it can be frustrating, or if any one of us falls behind, the rest of us suffer. But overall, that's the only true difficulty of working with a team.

Blog Assignment for 10-7-10
WHO are you designing your game for? (Include the player's age, abilities, and prior knowledge of your topic.)
Designing for all age groups; there is no limit to the fun! Should not require any precious experience or prior knowledge.
WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? (Be specific!)
How gravity works to pull an object to earth, and how to manipulate it's force to a user's advantage.
WHERE does your game happen?
In a kitchen, or a camp fire.
Describe to the to the world how you will design your game.
Will first create a paper prototype, and then proceed to create the appropriate code needed to create the required mechanics for gameplay.
How will this setting add to the learning experience?
It will help the player to realize that you can use your knowledge any where at any time; it is not limited to the class room.
HOW does your game teach the player about your topic?
By showing how a marshmallow reacts to the force of gravity as it is catapulted through the air.
What happens in the game world that helps the player learn?
Every day things; the player will use a spoon to launch a marshmallow at an incomplete snore, so they will be able to draw from real life circumstances.
How does the player use what they learned to make something happen in the game?
They will launch the marshmallow at the appropriate trajectory and earn points.
WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz?
Because it is more enjoyable and easy to get into than a quiz; it is not very enjoyable to simply learn about the formula and mechanics of gravity on their

Blog Assignment, 9-23-10
In my free time, I occasionally play games. I normally favor action or sports games, because they are fast paced and action is never lacking. This topic has given me a bit of a new perspective on making games, but not by a very large margin. It may or may not aid me in further game development, depending on the topic of the game that I myself choose to design.

The Game I Found
Wake Up the Box
http://www.physicsgames.net/game/Wake_Up_the_Box.html
The link above will take you to an excellent game that challenges mind and intellect. The objective of this game is to wake up the sleeping box in each level. However, to wake it up, you must conjure several clever and creative contraptions to knock it off of its pedestal, effectively awaking it from its slumber.
This game is not only educational, in-as-much that it teaches some of the fundamentals of physics and gravity, but it is also very entertaining and a joy to play. The dynamics of the game allow for some spectacular structures, and the difficulty never exceeds the impossible. All in all, an excellently designed game with excellent educational values.

What Genre Interests Me the Most
My name is Josiah Pitts, and of all the unique topics that I have to choose from for my game topic, I believe that I would like to develop a game in the action genre. Action games are fun and fast paced, and encourage the user to become actively involved in the gameplay, which makes it an excellent choice for creating an educational game.

What I Expect to Learn
In this multimedia class, I expect to learn a great deal about code and working with flash. I also expect to learn more about working with a team and collaborating on game ideas together. I also anticipate learning more about the Globaloria program itself.
